Progress has slowed down since lasdt update since getting the combat system to work without glitching itself into a malfunctioning mess has been a nightmare, but I've managed to get the rough workings of the ability to fight and be fought running. This is my last week before the beginning of semester, so progress might slow down EVEN MORE, but I guess this is just a hobby for me anyways. Still, I'm hoping to complete this demo in maybe a couple more months or something? I'd be very pleased with myself if I could, but for now, here is the video update:

Over the past week, I've gone about establishing some of the handlers for game mechanics and just trying to not make the thing crash, I've decided to talk in my video updates so you can hear more about hte specifics in the video right here:

I've spent the last week mostly creating assets for the prototype, and now I've gotten around to 'coding'. Really, I'm just having an AI code everything for me, and then I go in and correct its mistakes, but it's doing the heavy lifting and providing the framework and such. This week will be for implementing actual game mechanics beyond just moving around, so we'll see how that goes. Here is the current state of the prototype:

A couple of days ago, staying up way too late, I finally decided to make my passion project involving my skunk and hare a video game, and a kind of blatant clone of Cave Story just because I was obsessed with it as a kid, and I guess because it's a good format for storytelling and overall vibes. I've literally only just started, so there'll be a lot of figuring out to do, but for now my only goal is to assemble a functioning prototype with movement physics, and from there add dialogue boxes, doors, weaponry, a basic enemy that can be hurt and hurt you back, blah blah blah... I'm just starting off with graphics, so here's a spritesheet for the two playable characters, Tom Willows and Jacob O'Hare. This blog will be updated weekly, so feel free to check in!
